Taekwon-Do - What Is It ?

Background

Taekwon-Do originates from Korea and has become one of the most popular and widely practiced martial arts in the world. It is famed for its use of kicking techniques, which distinguish it from many other martial arts.

Kapiti TKD practices the original ITF (International Taekwon-Do Federation) style of Taekwon-Do and is affiliated to the iTKD (International Taekwon-Do New Zealand)

iTKD

iTKD is our national governing body to which Kapiti TKD is affiliated. iTKD itself is affiliated to and recognised by the ITF (International Taekwon-Do Federation) which is our worldwide governing body.

Through this network of clubs and affiliations, you are recognised worldwide as a practitioner of ITF Taekwon-Do. Should you be a colour belt or a black belt, your rank is recognised where ever you go - worldwide !

iTKD also places great importance on the level of instruction at your local Taekwon-Do club. Each instructor must be approved at regional and national level to instruct, must attend regular iTKD Instructor Training Courses and hold a current First Aid Certificate.

For more information about iTKD, please visit their website.

Gradings

Gradings offer you the opportunity to progress further in rank within Taekwon-Do. There are 3 gradings per year and are conducted by an independent examiner appointed by the iTKD.

Personal Development

Both Kapiti TKD and the iTKD pride themselves on giving all our students not only the skills and knowledge of one of the world's best martial arts, but also valuable life skills. In particular Confidence, Courtesy, Respect and a desire to succeed.

We also pride ourselves on working with students that have injury or condition of any degree or type to tailor a course of instruction that will ensure you meet iTKD's grading syllabus requirements but also your expectations of what Kapiti Coast Taekwon-Do can offer you. Information you give to the instructor remains strictly confidential at all times.

Kapiti TKD will push and challenge you in many ways. Initially you may think it's all too much, but hang in there as the rewards are many and well worth the effort.

Also remember that the Instructors are there for you, so don't be afraid to ask questions !!
